Jamon Iberico/Chorizo in Los Angeles

I recently went on a trip to Spain and I can't live any longer without some Iberico Jamon. I know the Bazaar and Riviera will carry it, but I want some for my house (and without spending $$ for a few slices). Any butchers you know of where I might get some?

La Espanola's iberico de bellota is good, but not great.

Nothing in L.A. will compare to the premium stuff found in Spain. Sorry... Just preparing you for possible disappointment.

Yea I figured that. I still have a massive craving for it so I am not going to be too picky.

Only saw it for about a month last year, my local Costco was carrying Fermin brand Jamon Iberico for $25 per 1/4 lb!!!

Ditto. As I said in a recent thread, many places that serve jamón ibérico get it from La Española, so you might as well skip the middleman... and go on a Saturday morning, having remembered to call on Thursday or Friday to reserve a plate of their excellent paella.

I know that La Espanola has a nice selection of imported Jamón Serrano, but do they carry Jamon Iberico specifically?

Yes, they have ibérico de bellota, at a truly breathtaking price—$45 per 100g I think was the last I saw—but not as breathtaking as the retail markup on ibérico de bellota bought from them and sold elsewhere. :)

Pretty sure that's where Surfas gets theirs. The carving skills at surfas leave something to be desired IMO. I'd double check while reserving my paella

You're so right about the carving of such ham at Surfas. I was cringing watching the carving..

There is only one guy who can carve that ham perfectly at Surfas.

Concur with DU - was there yesterday and they did have it. Even saw a couple of pre-sliced vaccum-packed in the cold display - blasphemy I know. :)

Off the top of my head, I'd say they had around 15-20 types of chorizo/sausages in the case. Don't overlook their cheese and wine selections as well. It is Friday, and normally paella is ordered today, but I'm guessing they're closed 2mrw? If I were the OP, I'd call to verify their hours today, see if paella is available at all, and if not, head down anyway, pick up some jamon, chorizo, queso, vino, aceitunas alinadas (marinated olive mix), and order their sandwiches as well. You'll be set for tonight...
