Hill Country is a lot of fun. I would also look at Otto as well as Carmines for nicely priced places to go with a large group.

For your group, if you are only 12, I'd try for the Breslin, but I think they max out at 12. It's a big oval table, which is nice. At the Momofukus (Noodle, Ssam, Ma Peche), it's typically a longer table, which isn't as fun with a big group, and the setting is much less comfortable. The food isn't quite as good at Alta and Resto IMO as the others. My thoughts on Daisy May's are in that thread (bad service). Oh, and my husband has done a big group dinner at Hill Country and said it was a lot of fun. They do a prix fixe.
