Take Out For New Years Eve
Renting a house in the Garden District during the holidays at the last minute and missed out on New Years Eve reservations, so thought we'd pick up some seafood and cook for ourselves. So the question is... where can you find some good takeout to fill in the meal? Was looking for gumbo, red beans and rice, dirty rice, decent bread, etc. Have a car, know the local transportation and willing to drive to the suburbs for something special. Thanks in advance.

I've never asked about take-out but Cafe Reconcile has good versions of what you want. Since they also cater I would guess they could do take out. If you have a larger group the web site shows the size/cost of their catered dishes

I suggest going to Langenstein's Uptown at 1330 Arabella Street. (Open until 6 pm today rather than their usual 7.) They have a freezer case full of gumbos, bisques, jambalayas, etouffees and more. Also great appetizers. I rely on them, as do many locals.
