Just Got back from Pop 'n Son's in Tampa

After picking up some .12 Gauge ammo in preparation for our annual New Year's Day Early Morning Puke and Shoot, my buddies and I decided to hit Pop and Sons Diner for a bite to eat.

The three times I've eaten there this month I've had friendly service, and the food (while not spectacular) is solid diner fare. I usually get the BLT, the Chili Burger, or the Special Omelet whenever I go.

Each time I've eaten there, the food has been pretty good, the prices have been low, the restaurant has been clean, and the portions have been fairly large.

Over the last few trips there, I have only gotten semi-warm french fries once. After I asked the waitress about it, she had the cook drop me a fresh batch of fries and had them out of the kitchen within five minutes. Outside of that issue, the waitress was on top of my coffee and refills for my drinks, and she was a very friendly person.

IMO, Pop 'n Son's is a good place to grab yourself a bite to eat for about $10 per person.

    deet,

How do you compare Pop's to Skyway Jack's St. Pete?

I think that Skyway Jack's is better, hands down. Skyway Jack's has the best S.O.S. this side of an Army chow hall. Plus the decor is pretty damned amusing.

That said, comparing Pop 'n Son's, a "classical" northern style diner, to Skyway Jack's, a Southern style roadhouse, isn't quite fair.

Pop 'n Son's prices are similar, and their food is pretty good, but I love Southern food way too much to give an unbiased comparison between the two diners...

Deet, I guess that is what intrigues me about Skway's, is the non-Northern menu. Like the Breakfast Special a few weeks ago Whole Fried Catfish w/eggs and grits. A friend will make the 40 mile trek just for the S.O.S.
Not to belittle any "Northern Diner" food .Still searching for a b'fast place that serves Taylor Ham!!!!!
