Please help - 6 girls going to Liverpool in search of good food

Hi, I was hoping someone may be able to help me out on here. I and five mates are going to Liverpool for a long weekend - none of us know the city well. As the foodie of the group I have been asked to come up with the places to eat. After reading some stuff on here Salt House Tapas sounds great. I love tapas eating, especially in a group. I was also liking the sound of 60 Hope Street but can't seem to find a website. Is it still open? It seems to have closed on and off. Good lunch places would also be helpful. There are varying incomes in the group, with the lowest being a student (still!) so nothing too expensive for dinner - say £40 per head all in. If anyone could help that would be great! Just in case this helps, one of my favourite restaurants in London is St John Bread and Wine - probably a bit scary for some of my friends but the atmosphere is what I'm looking for. Thanks.

  1. Yes - Salt House Tapas is great. There seems to be something wrong with 60 Hope Street's web page. I'm sure they haven't closed down (and it hasn't ever closed before, so not sure where you got that impression ...). They have Twitter and Facebook pages, so it would be worth ringing them.

Not sure that anything here would be comparable to St John Bread and Wine - although I've not been there, so can't make comparisons with the atmosphere there.

Other places worth exploring are Puschka, Ziba and San Carlo (part of a small chain, but gets good reviews) one or two of these may be a it expensive though. I also like the Side Door on Hope St - lovely dining room in a small bistro type place. Italian Club Fish has been very good the two times I've been, and has a good buzzy atmosphere.

If you fancy going a few miles out of the city centre to Allerton, there are other choices - Spire might fit the bill. I haven't been there for a while, but it gets good reviews and is cheaper than the city centre options.

Thanks Theresa - I'm putting my favourites to a vote. Thought you might like to know that Side Car looks just like St John - which I thought was amusing. They all look great - I now what to spend more time in Liverpool to get round them all. Thanks again.
