I looking for a restaurant in manhattan with a cool private dining room for 10 people. Simple American food and no more than 50$ per person. I was thinking maybe etcetera etcetera or supper(supper is italian but has no room fee or minimum!) Would love your suggestions!

I'm confused. You state in your title that you are looking for American food but Supper is an option you are considering but Supper is an Italian restaurant. Is Italian acceptable too?

Since Italian will work for you, we did a nice dinner at Crispo in the back garden area (covered in colder months) last winter. I just checked the contract - it was $45 per person, not including tax, tip and drinks. I don't remember if the back room was available to be seated privately - we had wanted to be seated in the lively back garden. The $45 included three courses, by the way. If your party grows over 14 people, they may required family style dining, but with 10 you should be fine to avoid that.

Back Forty does a number of different "Feasts" for large groups: crab, burgers, suckling pig, vegetarian, or a tasting menu. The burger one seems pretty reasonable. $35 for a three course meal.

Also look at Blue Ribbon Bakery, inoteca, Jane, the Smith. $50pp isn't very much though when it comes to a big group.
