I plan to try this pizza place in a few days, and, I was wondering if anyone has tried it and can provide any feedback.
Thanks in advance.

Well, I had lunch today, and, I thought the place was great. The owner personally came to our table many times, to make sure we where happy with the service and food. We ordered several pies, and. the topping were generously loaded. I plan to go back, we all very much enjoyed the place.

Great? Like Una Pizza Napoletana great? Like Tony's Pizza Napoletana great? Like Da Michele great?

At the end of the day, Coalhouse is ok. We here in Stamford are grateful. Having said that, Tarry Lodge in neighboring Port Chester is clearly a better pie and well-worth a 10-15 minute drive.

"Great" is an adjective that should not be tossed about lightly when words like OK or terms like "pretty good" would be more appropriate. "Great" for Stamford? Without qualification, "great" is a meaningless indicator.

I'm pretty fond of pizza as are you. Let us not mislead dear readers when we discuss quality.

I apologize if I sound rude. As always, I look forward to your thoughts/comments/criticisms.

      Respectfully,

You're right. I over commented by saying great - just a habit. However, it was a descent place, and, if I'm in the area area, I would consider it.

I've been to coalhouse a couple of times during the last 3 months and enjoyed the pies. I think they do a good job on the crust. The toppings on some of the pies can be a little all over the place and I'm not sure they are optimal flavor combos but I couldn't fault the freshness of the ingredients or the amount. The staff is friendly and attentive and like someone else said the place is probably best enjoyed after 9pm. They also have a great craft beer list so kudos to them from this beer lover.

I would rate it a solid B for stamford. For instance better than remos imo. However, I would agree with Steve H that the tarry lodge pie is the best in the broader local area and coalhouse is not at that level.

its okay..like previous poster said- stingy.

i left there thinking the food tasted good, but was not running back there anytime soon.

unless you want to be surrounded by kids, go after 830.

TAP -- here's one of many threads where Coalhouse appears. Check search for other reviews

I was there a couple of weeks ago and sampled many with a group. Overall, the gang thought it good but not great... while the ingredients are fresh, just a bit stingy. The kicker was the best ... but compared to others in Stamford a B.

My favorite thing about Coalhouse is their scarlet neon sign blazing over Bulls Head at night. Best sign in all of Fairfield Cty.

Also two doors away from Sal's Pastry. Introduced to the best cannolis north of Arthur Avenue.

Thanks Louuuuuuuu for the feedback, I'm going there for lunch this afternoon, and I'll report back on my findings. I don't expect it to be a good as many of the other great places in the area, Colony, Pepe's, etc.

            Hey TAP,

I posted my review on your site last night. Can't wait to hear how you liked the place. I liked it last year and am interested in seeing if the quality stayed as well as the charring getting better since the owner told me that it might take a year for the ovens to season.

Louuuu has a great palate and gives good guidance up here so you have two data points.

Please report back here as well.

            Enjoy
