Tips for Dining, Eating and Food Shopping in Pennsylvania (exc. Philadelphia, inc Pittsburgh)

rehearsal dinner Pittsburgh 50-60 people

Hi everyone!

I'm looking for some suggestions for a rehearsal dinner in the north area of Pittsburgh. The wedding is in Butler, PA, but most people in the wedding live in the North Hills, so anywhere between Butler and the North Hills would be great. I don't need it to be fancy, but I would like it to have good food (obviously :-)) so your suggestions would be great!

Also, I may decide to have it at my house, so any information about good caterers is welcome as well! Thanks so much!

  1. I haven't eaten here but a co-worker says their food is really good - they also do catering:

    1. I'm not terribly familiar with the dining scene up in Butler, but I have been to a number of rehearsal dinners in the North Hills. Here are the ones I remember most fondly:

Andora, on Mt. Nebo Rd. (Ohio Twp.), has very good food and a decent setup for a rehearsal dinner. I don't think the rehearsal dinners I've been to there have been quite as large as 50-60 people, so I'm not totally sure they could comfortably accomodate you, but it's worth checking out.

Willow, on Camp Horne Rd (also in Ohio Twp.), is also very good, and the rehearsal dinner I went to there was exceptionally handled. They have plenty of space and should easily be able to accomodate your group.

Cross Keys Inn, on Dorseyville Rd (Indiana Twp.), is also worth investigating. I went to a rehearsal dinner there about a year ago, and the everything about it was great. They have a number of private dining rooms upstairs, and I think they could handle your party.

I've been to more rehearsal dinners at Ricos, in the North Hills, than anywhere else. They do a very good job, and the food is extremely tasty.

Two others I can't speak to but seem like they might fit the bill are:

Restaurant Echo, on Rte 228 in Cranberry, in the space formerly occupied by Hereford and Hops. I haven't been there yet as they've only opened in the past month, but the chefs/owners have distinguished culinary backgrounds, the menu looks tasty, and the space can easily accomodate groups of virtually any size.

Woodside's Grille at Woodside Manor, on Stone Mansion Dr. in Franklin Park, opened this year in what was the Stone Mansion. I have yet to eat there but friends have recommended it. Additionally, I have been to a rehearsal dinner when it was the Stone Mansion, and the space worked perfectly.

Unfortunately, I know nothing about caterers

This is very helpful and will look into all of these suggestions. Thanks so much!

      2. All the ones listed so far are good places to check to see if they fit what you're looking for.

I would add Bella Frutteto which is also in Franklin Park (other side of I-79 from Stone Mansion, right off the Rt 910 Wexford exit). I'm not sure if their room in the back is really large enough for 50+, you'd have to check, but have eaten there a few times, love the food. Restaurant Echo should be hitting its stride assuming you're doing this in a few months or so, haven't been yet but great to have a new and somewhat ambitious place in Cranberry.

I actually called Bella Frutteto because I've heard great things about them, but they cannot accommodate us. Thanks for the suggestion though, I might just have to try it another night!
