Restaurants near Ranch 99

Has anyone tried the restaurants in the same shopping strip as Ranch 99? I'm interested in Mr. Tofu and Mian Cuisine in particular. I may give them a go in the next week and was just wondering if anyone had eaten at either one. Just have to say, I love Ranch 99. I've gotten lots of cooking tips from the people cooking just inside the entrance. Thanks for the help.

  1. I was a big fan of Ranch 99 in California, but since I read mostly mixed reviews about the Ranch 99 here, I still haven't made the trek from Ft. Worth there. I hope you get some positive feedback so that I can then shop AND eat there.

My husband loves the bakery there and so far I've been happy with the things I have bought. I will go try one of the restaurants in the same strip next week (one of my many New Year's resolutions!).

I like the bakery as well and most of the food I've had there.

I've been to the Sichuanese Cuisine and the Mr Tofu (as well as the Italian place) next door. I thought Sichuanese was ok but Little Sichuan is still my favorite (one exit north, near the Asia World). I thought Mr Tofu was pretty good, they brought out 9 (iirc) banchan including one small but whole fried fish (and she offered to bring out another after she saw me attacking it). I think I ordered pork and tofu soup and I thought it was pretty good overall, good quality tofu (which I expect when it's in the name) and enough pork to be worthwhile. Very friendly service. The Italian place (Cafe Roma) makes good pizza and red sauce pastas but I probably like their calzones the best. Oh I've also been to the Japanese place out front near the credit union, Tampopo. I haven't had the sushi, the udon and tonkatsu were both ok but not great.

I would agree with your assessments but I have to say that the sausage rolls at Cafe Roma are the reason to eat there. They have been there for years everything else is a recent addition.

I have to add the the Sushi at Tampopo is pretty much what you would expect. It's cheap and not bad for the price, but nothing to write home about either.

    2. I am planning on trying Mian Cuisine on Friday. I will post an update then. I stopped in and talked to the folks as Mr. Tofu and found them to be quite nice. I just have not managed to get their to eat. There are just so many great Asian restaurants in Plano now....
