Red Velvet Cupcakes in Boston?

Hi All:

I am looking for delicious Red Velvet Cupcakes in Boston. I had one for the first time a few months ago out of town.

The Red Velvet cake at the bakery in my town was a huge disappointment.

I am searching for some delicious red velvet cupcakes for new years.

Many thanks in advance,

  1. I LOVE the ones at Dave's Fresh Pasta - not sure if Davis Square is too far out... these are moist and delicious. Beautiful creamed butter and sugar frosting - very light. The ones I have had are minis - but I am pretty sure they have the reg size as well. Yum!

    1. This might sound weird if you don't have a gluten allergy (which I'm guessing you don't since you're looking for cupcakes) but Glutinous Minimus in Belmont has the best red velvet cupcake I've had. If you have a car you should check it out. Its not easy to get to on public transportation though.

      1. I had the best red velvet cupcake on Christmas day at a friends house. Everyone was commenting how good they were. I pulled the hostess aside to ask where she got them. They were Betty Crocker!

        1. Sweet in Boston (2 spots) and Cambridge (Harvard) have amazing Red Velvet Cupcakes. I'm not sure if they're making them for the winter season so check their menu online, but they have delicious cupcakes!

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree about Sweet. I tried four cupcakes for a review, and I found all of them to be overbearingly sweet, to the point that I couldn't finish them. The red velvet was definitely near the bottom of my list.

Yeah, I agree. Someone bought a half dozen cupcakes from Sweet, and we all fought over who was going to have the Red Velvet one - so we split it - I didn't even bother finishing it... it was dry, very sweet, and next to no frosting. I'm sorry - but I like my cupcakes to be frosted, not "dolloped!!"

Yes, their RV cupcakes look like they have a white dogpile on top of them.

          2. I'll be at Treat in Needham tonight for their Red Velvets

"Treat" in Needham seconded! Their plastic "to go" containers are awesome too (though probably not great for our planet).

Yes, I wanted to hate them, especially the cutesie "make your own cupcake" package. They definitely seem to be pandering to the Ugg crowd (which I guess you have to do to survive in Needham), but they do make some damned good cupcakes. I like the peanut butter and chocolate ones the best, and the red velvet and boston creme are quite good, too.

"The Ugg Crowd" = AWESOME and so apt. No offense to Ugg-wearers here. (or is there? jay kay.)

May I please borrow that? :)

But yeah, they are deceptively tasty. Very friendly people too.

Feel free! I think they revoke your suburban mom license if you don't have them on your feet when the temperature drops below 70 degrees. If your daughter doesn't have a pair by 3, DCS gets involved.

We took ours home in cardboard (we got 6, total).
