Today's Groupon - Broadaxe Tavern

jujuthomas Dec 28, 2010 04:38 AM

$15 for $30 worth of food at Broadaxe Tavern today on Groupon.

I've heard so-so reviews here, but I'm thinking this is a cheap-er way to try them out. Ya think it's worth it?

I'll cast a dissenting vote and say that I liked the Broad Axe both times I was there. Both times I sat at the bar on a weeknight and it wasn't all that loud (actually I'd describe it as quiet) and the bartender was friendly enough that I specifically remember his good service even though the last time I was there was several months ago. Both times I ate there I got the pizza which I'd describe as average, but they have a late night happy hour where all pizzas are half price and I thought the pizzas were a good value at half price. I can't comment on the liquor drinks as I drank beer when I was there, but whatever nights I was there they had a late night happy hour where the beers were discounted and they have a nice selection of craft beer. The Broad Axe is very convenient to one of my clients so I bought the Groupon and will report back with my findings.

thanks for the feedback folks. It is such a shame, we had such high hopes for that space, and it's so close to home.

The space is still superb, and worthy of much better culinary talent and management than the current occupants provide.

Does anyone remember the Hotel Tremont in Lansdale (under the whip-cracking management of diminutive French hand-kissing, bum-patting, goblet-toting lush, Marcel)? That's what we need in the Broad Axe - a real French bistro. Not a "T.G.I..." bistro but the kind that Marcel ran. Everything was exquisite - fresh daily, cooked to perfection, promptly served sizzling hot and the best kept secret in Montco. Marcel, where are you?

Aaaahhhhh, Memories! Was devastated when the Hotel Tremont bit the dust. You're exactly right CP, we need Marcel to find his way to the Broad Axe.

Only been there twice and that was two times too many. Poor service, very loud rooms, average or below food often done poorly. Not worth my time or money even at half price.

Saw that as well.....but sadly...my last two experiences there were so poor both in food and service...that I am not wiling to go ...even with a half price coupon.

I have to agree with Ilovesummer -- food was mediocre, and the drinks, besides Cosmopolitans being served only a touch above lukewarm, are very stingy pours.
