Chez Janou?
I was walking past Chez Janou to see if it open during the Christmas period and while the awning says Chez Janou, the door mounted menu was titled Le Chine. Does anybody know if this is a recent change in owner or is this business as usual?

Le Chine is one of the other properties operated by the owner of Chez Janou and Le Petit Marche. It is near Marche Aligre, and is a 3-storey affair, attempting to combine a bar, restaurant and disco - all with a vaguely Asian flavor. It fails, dismally...the sign you saw was an advertisement for the New Year's Party there.
I live nearby Chez Janou, and a few years ago, we used to eat there fairly regularly. During the last 2 years or so, things have slid downhill fast. Same owner, who apparently has major difficulty running his many businesses, and multiple major staff turnovers.
Unfortunately, he has yet to hire anyone who knows basic cooking, and the servers are hired solely for their looks, not their ability or willingness to work. Somehow, the place manages to stay extremely busy and make money, if not friends and returning guests.
The only reasons to frequent this place are: its location - near Place des Vosges; its "look"- straight out of a Marcel Pagnol movie, but which is ruined at night by loud "techno" music; and a deep, unabiding love for the more than 80 brands of pastis offered here.
Even so, you can do so much better in Paris!
