Need Recs in LA Area (Rose Bowl Bound)

I'm a Houston Chowhound headed to LA for the Rose Bowl and looking for some lunch recs in the downtown area near Staples Center. Also, looking for some good, local dinner and lunch spots in Glendale and Pasadena areas. Thanks for the help and Go Frogs.

As far as Pasadena goes, for the days leading up to the game/parade, the usual rules don't apply because the town if filled with out of towners. Things along Colorado Boulevard get a little crazy and the Old Town section is overrun. On the other hand, there are lots of good places a short drive away. And varieties of Chinese food are certainly the local star. But if there are any particular things you are seeking, let us know.

How about Skaf's for some frog legs? ;) Just kiddin' on the frog legs, but Skaf's is great Lebanese, and so is Hayat's Kitchen in North Hollywood. In general, the Glendale area has a huge Armenian population, so you can expect not only great Aremenian cuisine, but the related offshoots from it, i.e., Lebanese. Mantee in Studio City has excellent Armenian/Mediterranean cuisine as well.

I'm not very familiar with Pasadena, but Euro Pane for breakfast/lunch/baked goods is tops on my list around that area. They have the original location, and newer location a few blocks away. If you like eggs, get their open faced egg salad sandwich and bring your Lipitor.

This general rec comes up every time for those who are visiting from out of town and may benefit from our local strengths if they are lacking in your home town - eat ethnic. I've already mentioned Lebanese/Armenian. Also consider Thai, Korean, Mexican, Japanese, and most certainly Chinese in the San Gabriel Valley area. If interested in any of those, make specifications and hounds will jump in with some thorough recs. Enjoy your stay and may the best vertebrate win!

Thanks for the reply. We have been an abundance of diverse, ethic cuisine in Houston but always look forward to comparing to what other diverse cities have to offer.
