Beef on Weck in Queens or Brooklyn?

Hello All,

What with Wafa's closing, I must now fill that void with something that I haven't had yet in this city and I guy I work with who used to live in Buffalo just mentioned the above.

Does anybody know if you can get good beef on weck (a western New York state specialty) here in Queens or Brooklyn?

I tried searching on Outer Boroughs and found no threads. But, this one came up on the Manhattan board: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/6337...

Alas, while some of these sandwiches sound good, they're all a bit off the mark for my quest. I'd prefer the real deal with the kummelweck roll and all.

Any local leads?

Thanks in advance!

ciao,

Bonnie's Grill used to serve one - no idea if they still do. Had the right roll and everything, perhaps a bit of a heavy hand with the horseradish.

        Hi Jeffsayyes,

That sounds great too but I think I may give Bonnie's Grill a gander. According to the "Menu Pages" online thingy, they still serve it. (thanks lambretta76!)

Bonnie's still serves it. Had it a few weeks ago and it was great.

I miss spiedies from my time upstate. You can buy Salamida Spiedie Sauce online.

I don't know if they still have it, but Brooklyn Fare on Schermerhorn had Salamida spiedie sauce at one point.

Mile End just started serving one. It's pretty good, but I have no real point of reference.
