In Search of Reasonably Priced Politically Correct Caviar
Having a few friends over on New Year's and would like to serve the classic caviar/blini/creme fraiche. Any suggestions on where I might buy some tasty but well priced sustainable caviar anywhere in the NYC area?
Thanks so much!

Fish eggs are notoriously essentialist. I suggest you forgo them in favor of some fruits and vegetables that have undergone sensitivity training. Nightshades and leafy greens in particular tend to be ideologically sound.
If you must have caviar, how about Russ and Daughters, at 179 East Houston? They are family-owned rather than corporate, and have been since 1914. "And Daughters" rather than "and Sons" should get pc points, especially given the pre-feminist venerability of the appellation.
Btw, there is now a producer of "no-kill" caviar: Mottra. They claim to massage the caviar out of an incision in the lower abdomen of the sturgeon. Sounds a bit fishy to me, but I guess torture and maiming is marginally preferable to killing.
