Babbo w/ Baby?

  • 9

Hey Guys,
My sister and her husband are coming to visit me in NYC with their 4 month old baby. They have read Heat and were wondering if they might be able to eat at Babbo with a baby, perhaps right at 5:30 in the bar area. It's one of my favorite restaurants but I'm not sure I've seen any babies there. If not we might do a late lunch at Lupa or something like that but I wonder if Babbo might work because the baby is so small and because husband is willing to whisk him out if he starts to cry. Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance for your help!

  1. Will the baby be in a baby bjorn type carrier? There's nowhere to put a car seat or stroller.

Yes, he's in a carrier. Too small for seat or stroller. Yeah, there's definitely not enough room for a bigger baby anywhere in Babbo.

They also want him to be around beef cheek ravioli early on in life so his palate develops. : )

    2. Not a good fit. Bar area at Babbo is loud and crowded. You won't want to sit at the bar and the few tables in the front are mighty small and close together. You might want to conjure Plan B.

Batali's place at One Fifth Avenue is very child friendly. Otto also has the advantage of very good wines at very good prices.

Offer to babysit and give them a couple of hours out alone to go to Babbo's since they are the one's who read Heat and want to see it. It could possibly be their first night out alone in a year and would be much appreciated.

          Why should I babysit?
Babbo is unfit for babies, that's a simple fact. Otto, on the other hand, is a Batali place that welcomes young ones and children in the back room.
          Go with the flow.

            Hey Steve,
Pretty sure Gayle was asking me to baby sit which I'm more than happy to do. : )
Otto is a great idea and would be fun for all. Thanks!

              Thank goodness,
              My rates are pretty high.

      2. I visited Babbo when my daughter was a infant. Sat upstairs with carrier next to my seat and had no problems. She slept through the dinner without a peep. Now of course had that not been the case I would have been pacing the sidewalk with her immediately.
