King Of The Sea - Statesville, N.C.

This absolutely off-the-radar, super-casual place is certainly worthy of Chowhound attention. It doesn't seem to have any reviews here.

I got the fried whole croakers. Since it was my second dinner after Keaton's I opted for the small - at an insane $6.99. There was nothing small about it. Three or four very large fish, plus onion rings, hush puppies and cole slaw.

Fish were great (skip if you're not bone avoidance). The frying was excellent - it didn't overshadow the flavor of the fish. (I don't the technical terms for fish flavor measurement - this wasn't on the bluefish level but it also wasn't one of those entry level seafood-for-those-who-dislike-seafood entrees.)

Hush puppies were delightful. Onion rings were decent but I had to save space for fish. Cole slaw had no character. But the iced tea was addictive.

Menu contains catfish and various saltwater goodies; I hope to return someday.
