Late Dinner near Embarcadero

My boyfriend and I are arriving to San Francisco on a Friday but are meeting family for a late lunch so we are looking to have a late dinner near our hotel which is located close to Embarcadero and the Ferry Building. By late I mean around 9pm (I am from New York, so this is pretty much when everyone eats, but I have been told that this is "late" for San Francisco...although I very well may have been misinformed). I would like something that is reasonably priced, possibly with just some small plates to share and a decent wine list offering quite a few selections by the glass and/or quartino. Something within walking distance would be ideal but a short cab ride would be acceptable also. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thank you!

  1. 9:00 isn't late by SF standards, few places close before 9:30 and on Friday and Saturday many are open until 10 or 11. Good selection of wines by the glass and small plates around there, Barbacco, La Mar, Blanc et Rouge, RN74, Bocadillos, Barrique. Anybody been to Sens lately?

    1. 9pm you can eat anywhere you want. If you end up wanting to eat later, like 11, hop over to The Globe, a cozy little cal-ital place with a good wood oven and a good by-the-glass list. It would be a very short cab ride or a slightly longer walk.

      1. Comstock Saloon is another place open later. Kitchen open until 1am? One very favorable report so far:

        1. In addition to what others have mentioned, you have Prospect (New American) and Perbacco (Italian), both of which are highly recommended. Ozumo (Japanese) is usually rocking on Fridays. Perry's is an OK diner with a bit of a sports bar feeling. Palomino and Chaya both have happy hour menus all night in the lounge and there are some decent values, like the $6 pizzas at Palomino. The burgers at Americano are really good and some of their other stuff is decent as well. All of these are within a few blocks from most hotels near the Ferry Building.

Perbacco's great, but its next-door spinoff Barbacco seems like a better match for the small plates request.

          2. Thank you everyone for your suggestions! I made a 9pm reservation at Barbacco and we are really looking forward to our trip. Thanks again.

I think with the good selection of wines-by-the-glass specification that Barbacco is a really good choice, and it's certainly an easy walk for a NYer from any of the hotels around the Embarcadero.
