Under the radar?
This year I had some great meals at places that don't seem to get much attention on Chowhound, like:
Balaboosta
Ushiwakamaru
Po
Jane
The Wright
Saluggi's pizza
I'd love to hear about your favorite spots that fly under the CH radar. Bonus points for moderate prices.

Seeing that your pics are not new restaurants I would throw in...
Inoteca
Frank and Lil Frankies
Zarela

I would go with 'Ino over Inoteca, as I've found it to have better execution
I would also throw Marc Forgione into the mix; while I wouldn't say it is my favorite restaurant in the city, I do think it deserves more mention than it gets.

Wow! I am surprised, as it has always been packed when I am in there. Sad to see a high quality Mexican spot leave after so many years.

Nuela has not been mentioned much. It's upper moderate in price, but there is a 30% off deal being offered on Village Vines. Even without a discount I think it is worth it for the excellent food.

Four of us had a great meal last night at Hundred Acres, sweetened with a Blackboard Eats 30% coupon. I use this all the time, anyone who lives here is foolish not to take advantage. Also have been loving Mermaid Oyster Bar but I am not a fan of their other places.

Yes! My BF and I love Fish. We live right around the corner, but still, the oysters (and other dishes) are great.

Silver Moon Bakery is excellent. I've been spending a lot of time on the Upper West Side and have made a few detours to Silver Moon. Everything has been very good.

Hey Peter, thanks for the compliment! I like Fatty Crab, have you been to both locations? I still have to try out the one in the UWS!

Chuonfood - I've only been to the UWS Fatty Crab. I plan to try the downtown location soon. And also Ushiwakamaru, based on your recommendation.
Pan - yes Silver Moon is great. I usually get their macarons and chocolate chip cookies.

Braeburn just closed. Rumor is that Chef Brian Briston is headed for Bouley.

Po is interesting to hear mentioned. It's of course, where Batali made his name, but they've sort of lingered there ever since, going ignored. Even then it still felt like a neighborhood restaurant. The name is starting to pop up a little more often which indicates we're lucky they hung on long enough to regain some recognition.

Po is still a very good restaurant that serves delicious food. Despite any naysayers you can get a great meal there. I will agree with the carbonara, an excellent dish.

What naysayers? It's not the kind of place anyone would nay. It just not be everyone's idea of yay.

Funny that it doesn't get much buzz here because whenever I walk past it is PACKED!

The Harrison was great. Definitely a keeper. Recette was good too, though a bit fussy for the casual setting. I haven't been to Tamarind yet but it's on my list. Thanks for the recs candyapple13.

Riverpark is an excellent new restaurant that is flying under the CH radar (exept from me). The prices are definitely moderate. It's a Tom Colicchio restaurant (but he is not the chef). Just recently received 2 stars from the NY Times. I'm having dinner there at the end of the week.

Lincoln and Ai Fiori don't seem to have much of a following on Chowhound yet, but they've become two of my favorite lunch venues. Great food, easy reservations, and prices are not as high as dinner.

Have had a couple of good meals at Cafe Gitane at the Jane Hotel lately. Much less crowded and sceney than the Nolita outpost.
Also, discovered a little neighborhood Italian gem last weekâMarinella, at Bedford and Carmine. Their squid ink pasta was very, very good.
