            1. I'm afraid that by the time this list is compiled, it will be outdated ...

This would be a perfect Xmas present for Sisyphus.

Wow...thanks Peripatetic, Bradbury, Chandavkl, raytamsgv. Exactly what I was looking for. I'm having to do a couple of list compilations (the other unrelated to food) and my brain is kind of overwhelmed.

And, ipsedixit, I know exactly what you mean, but so long as it's as accurate as possible...as of that date, it'll have to do. It only works as it's a list for the given year, past that...I wouldn't want to tackle a running one.

                1. re: JThur01

                  Ok, I'll play.

                  Spring Wave, San Gabriel
                  Jasmine Cafe, San Gabriel
                  FFY Noodle House, Rowland Heights
                  Suit Ur Buds, Rowland Heights
                  Flavr Lounge, Covina

Look You Fan Dim, Monterey Park
                  Red Corner, Monterey Park

                  1. re: ipsedixit

What I want to know is which of these new restaurants are worth helping keep open through 2011!

                    1. re: odub

From the running list thus far,

                      I'm pulling for the following:

                      Canton Gourmet and Bakery
                      Huge Tree Pastry

The rest is just sort of background noise ... like the stuff you hear in elevators.

                      1. re: ipsedixit

I go to Huge Tree about twice a week to pick up some breakfast on the way to work, but I never see anyone else in there. I'm hoping they can survive until people start moving into the complex (who knows how long that will be though), and maybe their business will pick up.

                2. Li Jiang is gone. It's a Vietnamese place now.

                  1. re: Chandavkl

Yep, that's why Li Jiang is under "Closings" in my original post. Thanks again for the list. Truly mind boggling.

What's even more stunning is that there was a short period of "stability" - well, in terms of the SGV anyway.

                  2. Did King's Cup even make it into 2010?

                    1. re: JThur01

Yes. I ate there in mid-January when they first opened up.

                      1. re: Chandavkl

Very good. Thank you Chandavkl. I planned on seeking out that post. Ah, January 19, I knew it was close to the line. Glad I remembered that much!

                    2. One more good one I somehow forgot: Tacos Ensenada Seafood on Huntington Drive in Duarte (opened in February, at least according to their health license).

Whether or not it deserved its place on LA mag's Top 10 Mexican list can be debated by reasonable people, but it's still the best fish tacos I've found this side of Ricky's.

                      1. i'm a bit confused. does this include moved? because jazz cat cafe reopened across from the hawaii supermarket

                        1. re: catbert

But they did change the name to Jazz Cat Restaurant from Jazz Cat Cafe and are in a different city, too.

                          Jazz Cat Cafe
                          640 W Valley Blvd, Alhambra, CA 91803

                          1. re: catbert

Jazz Cat opened in San Gabriel in '09, closed the Alhambra branch this year.

Bradbury, thanks for the addition. Where can one find these health license listings?

                              1. re: ipsedixit

I was hoping to find what Bradbury was referring to, something that gave date of opening.

                                1. re: JThur01

Most restaurants have a copy of their various licenses hanging somewhere (often a very hard-to-find somewhere) for public review. Health licenses might not be the best place to look if a place has been open a long time, as I believe they need to be updated annually. But building permits, DBA notices, etc. should give at least a rough sense of when a place opened.

I don't know of a comprehensive online resource for dates of opening, but then I haven't really looked for one either, so perhaps something of the sort exists (?)
