Shipping Bacon
I would like to ship some bacon to my cousin in Denver. (I live in SE Michigan). Considering that the bacon is processed (brined and smoked) what precautions should I take? Is it so perishable that it would require extra special handling (dry ice, special styrofoam shippers, etc.) or would it be safe just to freeze it and them ship overnight. I'm assuming that most shipping areas these days are fairly cold as it is. Any thoughts?
Bob
If you're shipping overnight this time of year, just wrapping the refrigerated bacon in some newspaper and packing in a cardboard box should be enough (newspaper is a very good insulator). If you want to be extra cautious (or if it's summertime) include one of those cold pack thingies inside the newspaper.
