Sweet Mandel - New German Bakery

  • 7

Someone from work brought in some of the best gingerbread I've ever eaten. It is a home-based business, but they are located in Newton:

  1. Funny, we had some of their goods in the office as well, and I prolly gobbled the lion's share of mandelhoernchens. Manhandled those mandelhoernchens. They were delicious. But I've never really met an almond cookie I didn't like, so don't take my word, try em out yourself.

I wanna order one of everything they make!

    2. Gebrannte mandeln! They have gebrannte mandeln! Man - I can't smell those candied nut carts in downtown crossing without it taking me back to the Christkindelmaerkte in Germany. And they deliver in Allston too! Thanks for posting this, StriperGuy!

thanks so much for this lead. My German son-in-law will be in heaven with his goodies, since he didn't go home for christmas market thisyear.

      2. Okay a co-worker brought in more stuff from this place.

Anise scented cookies of different sizes pressed in a mold that leaves floral patterns on the cookies. One of the most beautiful cookies I've ever seen.

Springerle. I've never succeeded in getting my sprigerle molds to work, unfortunately - the dough always either sticks in the carving and refuses to come out in one piece, or puffs enough in the baking to blur the pretty images.

I really need to place an order with these nice ladies!

Seriously these cookies are a work of art. Absolutely gorgeous! I scarfed the whole bag at work.

Most of my co-workers are not really worthy, they would seriously rather eat peanut butter cookies with Hershey's kisses in them then something "weird" like (now I know the name) Springerle.
