Looking for a restaurant like the Savoy with more veggie friendly options

Hi! I'm bringing my wife to NYC in early January for a birthday weekend. We're having dinner with friends on the Friday night and I'm taking her out Saturday. I'm trying to find a restaurant with a menu in the style of the Savoy but with a few vegetarian options (I'm a vegetarian; my wife eats fish).

We're staying on the Park, but later that evening we're headed into the West Village for jazz, so I'd prefer to go somewhere either in the Village or close to the upper West side.

Any ideas? Would prefer to stick within a $100 pp range including wine, if possible.

Thanks!

  1. I don't know if this helps, but I actually called Savoy recently to see if they could accommodate a vegetarian. I had eaten there some time ago but someone else made the reservation and I know I didn't go hungry (and quite enjoyed my meal). In any event, they said it would be no problem at all. Perhaps you can stick with Savoy?

    1. I think you might enjoy Commerce. It's one of my favorite in the neighborhood. You can have a delicious & satisfying veg meal there.

      1. As Olive123 said, Savoy would certainly be able to accomodate you.

        A few other options:

Blue Hill - always has at least one vegetarian entree, and they'd be happy to entree-size any of the apps (of which 5/7 are vegetarian currently, I believe) for you, I'm sure. Depending how much wine you drink you might slightly break $100/pp but you can certainly do it for under, with careful drink selecting.

Babbo - if you can get a rezzie, that is. You couldn't do a full three-savory / one sweet Italian meal, but you could certainly do apps and a veggie pasta for your main.

Scarpetta - maybe even a better choice than Babbo, since they added a full vegetarian menu for all courses, including eight (I think) non-pasta entrees.

Braeburn or Mas (Farmhouse) - similar to Blue Hill, there's one veggie entree at each, but either could always super-size one of the many veggie apps for you if one of those looked more interesting.
