Commanders for lunch

tigerbuilder81 Dec 21, 2010 12:26 PM

My DW and I went to Commander's Palace for lunch the other day, and as always, it was truely exquisite. The service was excellent, the food was out of this world, and the atmosphere was festive with all of the patrons wearing their "holiday bells"

As stark contrast, we went out to eat with a friend a few days later at Kona Grill. Spent the same amount of money, and walked out going "Why didn't we just go to CP?

Had lunch there yesterday, Wonderful as always...I could make a meal off the garlic bread alone! Yesterday, one of the prix fixe was your choice of soup/salad and a cochon d'lait poboy...which I had. Trio of soups, thought the crab bisque was to die for...also added the Tasso and Shrimp Henican. Too much food, but delicious..

I had a similar festive experience earlier this month. Lunch in the CP Garden Room is simply wonderful.

It changes daily, as does the "heart healthy" menu. Soup specials are a daily addition. Great place to eat and celebrate. My favorite dessert is the Praline Parfait, although you can not go wrong with their strawberry shortcake. First of the Ponchatoula berries have arrived...so sweet and delicious.

I would assume that this is the same Kona Grill, as we have in Phoenix (actually several locations in the Metro-area). If so, I am not the least surprised. We dined there (Scottsdale location), and were totally underwhelmed. It seems to be an after-work, hook-up bar, that also serves some food. Nothing was at all memorable, and we have not returned - unlikely to do so either.
