Thai in Morris County, except Mo'town

bropaul Dec 21, 2010 10:13 AM

Friends and I have a tradition of meeting for Thai food on New Year's Eve. We've been going to Thai Thai in Stirling for years, but we want to try someplace new this year. Because of the First Night in Morristown, we want to avoid there. What are your favorite Thai places in the Morris/ Somerset area?

OK, we're leaning towards Thai Nam Phet in Rockaway. We have been there before and always liked it.

Yeah, I've liked that place when I've gone, too. (And oops! I didn't realize you'd already disqualified Thai Thai in your OP! Sorry....)

So this is where we ended up going and we were not disappointed. Everything was delicious and they were very gracious hosts. The place was hopping! Good for them. Happy New Year!

Since you include Somerset in your area of interest, I suggest you consider a trek to Somerville/Bridgewater. There are at least six Thai restaurants there, my favorites being Origin Thai and Splash of Thai. If you decide to go to Origin Thai I suggest you make a reservation now. It's very popular.

If you don't want to drive that far, I suggest Origin Thai in Basking Ridge, just off Route 78.

There is Thai Ping in Boonton. Pretty good.

I can recommend two places: Thai Chef in Denville, which is a small, fairly intimate place - the food there is excellent, and they wait on you very attentively. The other place is Thai Nam Phet in Rockaway (Rt 46). I've only eaten there once, and found the food to be very spicy (not a bad thing). One of my friends brought her Thai au pair there, and she raved about the food. Much bigger restauarant, probably more boisterous and festive on New Year's Eve. Of course, there's plenty of time to go on a fact checking mission!

Another thumbs up for Thai Nam Phet in Rockaway. While I've only eaten there a few times, it is above the usual standard for NJ.
