Need help deciding on a wedding caterer in San Diego

Hello! I am getting married next summer and wanted some input on a wedding caterer. I was given a list of caterers to choose from and wasn't sure which one to set up tasting appointments with.
I don't live in San Diego so any information you have will be much appreciated!

Here are my choices:

Chile & Co Catering
Continental Catering
French Gourmet
Pear Tree Catering
Indulge With Style

Thanks!

  1. I started this thread (http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/6508...) after Mr. Geeky and I tied the knot last year. We went with The French Gourmet and they did a truly spectacular job. We had a tasting at Continental and I just remember it being really bad. The food was poorly prepared and the catering rep was inept. At Peartree, Stefanie (if she's still with them) is amazing, although we didn't do a tasting with them. She's really nice and helpful and they've catered some work events for Mr. Geeky. He thought the food was pretty good.

Don't know anything about Chile & Co or Indulge With Style.

    Good luck and congrats!

    1. Pear Tree catered our wedding in 2008. The food was quite good (but in my opinion fell short of being great) and everything about the experience went smoothly. I would certainly consider working with them again.

      1. I apologize for recommending a vendor who isn't on your list, but my experience with the following catering service was so good, i just can't not tell you about them. TOAST catered my wedding last month and the food, as well as service and quality were amazing. You can find my complete review here :

        Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

        1. Hi Yuchi,
I know someone said they hated Continental Catering, but I just got married in September this year (2010) and went with Continental for my wedding at the Orfila Winery in Escondido. I felt like they did an excellent job for the price point. It was one of the least expensive places we could choose from ... so I'm sure if you are willing to spend TOP dollar for a caterer ... then there might be better ones out there. But I was really pleased with the end result!

I felt like they were willing to accommodate me with some changes I wanted to make with the food (such as putting less dressing on the salad and less "topping" on a vegetable dish), offered to have special food just for the kids at our wedding, created a beautiful presentation and I heard from many people that the food was wonderful. I agreed. We had these braised short ribs that tasted delicious!

Of course a five star restaurant will be better ... but I really do think it's worth giving Continental a chance since they are less expensive than many of the other caterers out there. Good luck! :)

          1. If you are looking to spend quite a bit of money for top quality, Waters Catering is the best in town. French Gourmet gives good bang for the buck, IMO. Peartrees and Festivities are also pretty good but also pretty expensive - would save money & use FG or go all out with Waters instead. Congratulations and good luck!
