Best place for a drink in Dupont?

A few friends want to meet for a drink to celebrate the holidays (and a birthday) somewhere in or near Dupont. We were considering the Gibson, but I think it's a little far. Anyone have any suggestions?

  1. The Gibson is not really in Dupont, more like U Street area.

2 places I'm liking these days are the lounge at Tabard Inn (this is a more low-key vibe) or Darlington House. Another place to consider is Science Club,.

    Darlington House
    1610 20th St NW, Washington, DC 20009

    U Street Cafe
    1301 U St NW, Washington, DC 20009

    1. What kind of scene are you looking for?

      1. We're past our 30s and not single-- just looking for a nice place to meet, drink and talk. Does that help?

Thanks for the suggestions, Elyssa. I've never been to Darlington House, but it looks like a interesting possibility, and Tabard Inn is a good idea too.

Would Firefly work (do they have tables in their bar area)?

Firefly does have tables in their bar area, and they make great cocktails there as well. If you're looking for a somewhat hipper, livelier scene than Tabard, it's a great spot. And I'm not knocking Tabard, the lounge is fantastic and they make a mean hot toddy--it's just a more old-school setting (i.e., fireplace and wood paneling), which good be perfect for your purposes

Firefly is good. I find Urbana to be a little more comfortable...although sometimes they play loud music. I think it depends on what time and day you are going.

          2. Kramer's has GREAT desserts and cocktails. The Raspberry White Chocolate, Cheesecake, Apple Crumb Pie and Carrot Cake are to DIE for! Wash it down with a Cherry Limeade (subtle) / Loosey Goosey Cosmo (strong).

I love the atmosphere. I've only dined outdoors, but there's PLENTY of indoor seating. Believe it or not, parking is usually a breeze during late hours.
