Road Trip from Clearwater to ATL. Lunch Pit Stop in Ocala or Gainseville?

First Leg of our road trip is from Clearwater, FL to Atlanta GA. I figure we will start getting hungry for lunch somewhere around Ocala or Gainseville. Any great spots not too far from I-75?

  1. Mojo Grill in Ocala. I make it a point to stop there whenever I head up to Gainesville. Get some nice confections at the candy store next door while you're at it.

    1. Pearl Country Store in Micanopy, exit 374, right onto Co Rd 239 then right on Hwy 441, about 1/2 mile or so.

Thanks for the link - this sounds like a terrific stop!

I stopped at Pearl Country Store the Monday after Christmas weekend. Their selection of jams, sauces and such were understandably a little skimpy. But, hey, alligator jerky! Nice regional book selection with a good number of university published titles, a few good regional cookbooks too. Purchased a phenomenally good little (perhaps 3" diameter) mini coconut pie at the cashier counter.

The restaurant section has the usual fast food/orange booth ambiance of a snack bar inside a convenience store. But, oh, the aroma! If you weren't hungry when you arrived, you'll get there shortly. Very casual, order at the counter, pay up front. I was there late afternoon, so my order was ready very quickly.

I ordered a brisket sandwich. Beef bbq is not easily found in my area, so it held a certain appeal. The choice of the sandwich was a great idea, the idea to get it to go - not so much. This is a generous amount of tender beef with an appropriate amount of sauce. I was very glad that I had my chow beach towel covering my torso during my attempt to eat this while driving! Fortunately I was taking backroads so no one was injured. It was worth it!

As far as BBQ goes, I don't think this would be on my ultimate BBQ pilgrimage roadtrip. But for an easy, really tasty interstate stop it rocks!

Thanks again crewsweeper! I-75 just got a little sweeter!
