Christmas Day in Flushing

  • 7

I haven't frequented Flushing Chinatown for a long time now. Nonetheless I've been put in charge of finding a likely dinner place for our group of 6-8 on Christmas Day. Yes a typical Jewish Christmas just like Elena Kagan...a movie and then Chinese food.

Any recommendations for a really good place for our group? Anyplace we might make a reservation for the group? What dishes would you strongly recommend at the particular place.

I've done some searching around and I see Imperial Palace and Canton Gourmet rate highly but a lot of those posts are a year or more old. Is there somewhere newer than you would recommend? Do those still stand out?

Thanks in advance for the help.

And a merry happy great 2011 to all!

    1. You don't mention whether you prefer lightly seasoned or strong flavored foods. IP and CG are both definitely good or better in the Cantonese(light flavor) category and Hunan House (sichuan) is equally good in the strong flavored genre.

I think we would prefer a Cantonese menu. Definitely not szechuan though we would try other regions if recommended. Thanks.

      2. Here's another question: will the Chinese restaurants in Flushing be open on Christmas Day? My wife and I were thinking of going to Spicy & Tasty after a movie.

Back in January someone posted that they had been to S&T for Christmas last year. That said, it would probably be a good idea to give them a call just to be sure.

The vast majority of Chinese restaurants in Flushing is going to be open, but I would double-check specifically with S&T

I know the crowds can be insane at the Manhattan Chinatown restaurants on Christmas Day - how about in Flushing?
