Dining near Atocha Station?
The weather cancelled our trip to Sevilla and dealt us an unexpected overnight in Madrid. What are the best options around Atocha station? We are staying at the AC Atocha for one night and will have two lunches and a dinner available.
Two suggestions in nearby AC Atocha:
Samarkanda sits in the Atocha Station, and has a terrace café which looks over the station's botanical garden with lots of foliage, a babbling brook and even a family of turtles. Serving up light lunches including tapas, sandwiches, cocktails and crêpes, you even get to sit on bamboo chairs and feel a little like an old world colonialist for the day.
Bodegas Rosell Restaurant, a vast wine list and a menu of varied tapas and portions. Its wines, with more than 100 references, are at fairly affordable prices. My personal rec is a vermouth from the tap as aperitif before the meal. Cod is one of the staple dishes on the menu, with an offer that includes a range of delicacies: brandade, croquettes (Cabrales cheese and ham), salmorejo, the famous Spanish omelette (tortilla) and a section devoted to foie. Reservations are recommended.
