Bearing Gifts to Greeks

Need a 'Host' present for a Greek guy who loves to cook. Will be taking this by train to Pennsylvania:
1. He does have access to greek markets.
2. I need to travel with it for a few hours.
3. I can't get myself to Astoria
Sooooo, any thoughts on something Greek and Foodie I can get in Manhattan that will travel and be fabulous????

How about a very high quality olive oil, Greek or otherwise? (Check Fairway and Olivier & Co., though I think O&Co's selections are mostly not Greek.) Or perhaps bring Greek olives from the olive bar at Fairway or Zabar's? Or very high quality lamb meat from the 3-Corner Fields Farm stand at the Union Square Greenmarket? You could bring the meat in a cooler with an ice pack without problems, if you don't mind schlepping it that way.

I think this is an especially thoughtful gift. Perhaps a trio of bottles: one for every day cooking, one for dressing and another for drizzling and finishing mezedes. I buy my oils at Fairway or DespaƱa, the O&Co. I've been to at Grand Central mostly sells flavored oils, which I find impractical. Fig & Olive or Dean & Deluca may also be worth a visit.

If he has access to Greek markets, why don't you just buy him a non-perishable thing like some good wine at a good wine shop like Astor? If you want to keep it Greek, buy a bottle or two of Greek wine their excellent sales staff recommends.

You could maybe get him some greek desserts? Poseidon Greek Bakery in Hells Kitchen (9th/44th) might be a good spot to start. Even if he has access to Greek markets, the dessert/baked goods may still be appreciated.

If he has access to Greek markets, why not bring something he can't get on his own easily?
