Calgary - Seeking venue for 200 guests
I'm currently looking for a restaurant that will hold about 200 guests (give or a take a few), with enough room for live performances (that all guests can see). Ideally, something with amazing decor so I don't have to do too much to it. Any type of cuisine works. This will be sometime between Feb 17-19 2011, depending on availability. Any help would be very much appreciated!!
ps if you know of anywhere that would be willing to rent out in exchange for all food/drink revenues, that would be perfect!
Try maybe The Servants Anonymous Group in Inglewood. Corner of 14st and 17av SE , just a block west of the Inglewood pool entrance. They run the Joi de Vivre a dining/catering service. They have different size rooms for more or less people. Also lots of parking, centrally located, great menu, room for entertainment, and best of all; they are a non profit group where all the proceeds of their businesses go to running their successful womens' programs. You will be impressed by these people.
Velvet at the Grand will only seat about 100 or so, but if you have a standing reception, you could fit 200+ in there. And then you can rent out the theatre for your live performance. Or have the seated reception in the theatre, which could easily sit 200ppl. I had my wedding there and it was amazing.
Here are a few to check out - although I can't confirm that they hold 200... hopefully it will get you started:
Fort Calgary - I've been to events there and the catering is fairly decent
Calgary Zoo - so beautiful - pricey but you get what you pay for
Belgo Brasserie - quite nice - fairly big too
Metropolitan Grill on 8th Avenue
501 8th Avenue SW, Calgary, AB T2P 1G1, CA
I had my wedding reception at the Danish Canadian Club. You only pay for food & drink... no rental fee. They had a stage for a DJ or band. The food is good & they'll order any alcohol you want (if they don't already stock it). The decor is nothing special but they do have a bunch of silver stars hanging from the ceiling! We didn't even decorate the place for our reception (besides centrepieces and a few vases). They have all their food & venue options on their web site: http://www.danishclubcalgary.com/faci...
Also, the Safari Lodge at the Calgary Zoo would likely hold 200 people but it is definitely more expensive.
