  1. Somebody told me yesterday that Franklin was going to be moving to that area soon. My first thought was that they would be competing directly with the person who had taken over the Ben's location. I didn't realize he was gone now. I'm glad they are actually moving into the same building and not just setting up next door.

    1. This is good news, but also a little sad. Good because in all my years of cooking, eating and even some competing in BBQ, the Franklin's Q is the best consistently that I have ever had. Anywhere. Period. This move is a testament to their quality and hard work. Plus, it's a bit closer now.

Kinda sad because the little trailer is an Austin icon now. Maybe there's a place for it to be enshrined at the new location.

Perhaps they could have it onsite, and use it like how homeslice has the slice operation nextdoor to the full restaurant. Just sandwiches out of the trailer, but have to go inside for your 15lb of brisket. I doubt this would be necessary.

          It will be the sign

        2. I hope the extra room speeds up the line so those of us gainfully employed can make it a weekly excursion.

Unfortunately the legislative session begins in a few days so it's going to be tough. Although I assume they'll have a lot more smoker capacity so maybe there'll be some food left after 2.

Spoke with Aaron the day before they took their holiday break. He said they are looking at mid-January occupation at the E. 11th st. brick & mortar, barring any unforeseen developments. BTW, the ribs that I got that that day were the best I've ever had from them & that's sayin' something! Smoke ring to-the-bone, melting fat layer mingling with the crusty, sweet, tender porkmeat. Yum. Best ribs that I had all year, easily beating the overrated Opie's faux-b-q.

Today on their Facebook profile (http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?i...) they updated with this:

"Thanks everyone! It is looking like we will move over to 11th street early February."
