No. 9 in Lambertville
After reading several positive reviews on Chowhound, we went to No. 9 in Lambertville tonight for a special occasion. I must say I was quite disappointed. The space was nice, but it was loud. The noise didn’t bother me, though, as much as the cold. We were at the furthest table from the door, yet every time the door opened, we were blasted with cold air. Yes, its 20 something degrees outside, but unless I’m camping, that shouldn’t affect me while I’m eating dinner.
The hostess was friendly, but the rest of the staff was inattentive and aloof.
For starters, we had the Caesar salad and the mussels. The mussels were quite good. They were fresh, tasty, and cooked well. They were served with some nice crusty bread perfect for sopping up the sauce. They were actually the highlight of the evening. Very enjoyable. I did not enjoy the salad. The dressing was too thick and goopy. It may not have been house made. While I do think anchovy is a must on a Caesar, I prefer my anchovies filleted. This anchovy had tail on and skin on. I found it very unappealing.
I have heard great things about the braised beef short ribs, but I don’t eat beef so I got the pasta special with shrimp, crab, and spinach. The sauce was tasty but the pasta was entirely undercooked. It also appeared to not have been cooked to order. While the sauce was hot, the pasta was not. It seemed as though they made the sauce to order and then spooned it on top of cold, barely cooked penne. To make matters worse, the spinach wasn’t washed well and was gritty. Unfortunately, the other entrée we ordered was also a pasta. This was an item off the menu with mushrooms, spinach, and sundried tomato. This dish suffered from the same problem as the other. Cold, undercooked pasta and gritty spinach.
For dessert, we shared the apple crisp with vanilla ice cream. It was nice. That’s it. Just nice.
All in all, I was disappointed. Maybe my expectations were too high, but I wouldn’t go back anytime soon.
