German Lebkuchen cookies - where can I buy them in Boston area?

I cannot find them anywhere, even Lakota Bakery in Arlington doesn't make them. The round frosted ones with almonds are ideally what I want. If anyone knows where to buy them around here, pray tell! Thanks.

Hey - look at this! You may have a better answer after all.

They don't specifically list Lebkuchen on their website, but they do say that they can bake pretty much anything and I'm sure that they're doing Lebkuchen for Christmas. Too late for this Christmas, but good to know!

When it comes to Lebkuchen there is absolutely no bakery making them as good as "Lebkuchen Schmidt". You can buy from them online at http://ww2.lebkuchen-schmidt.com/eng_...

Trader Joe's carries good ones roughly between Thanksgiving and Christmas (the brand is Weissela). TJ's is owned by the large German discount chain Aldi so they often have some good German things. I was recently in the Coolidge Corner branch though and didn't see them, although I wasn't specifically looking for them.

Oh man, these are my favorite cookies from TJ's around holidays. Too bad they get dry after a while or I would stock on them for the rest of the year.

I was at TJs in Cambridge on Friday and saw some cookies there, although, I cannot remember the brand name.

I don't know of anyone local that bakes them. Cardullo's usually has a big selection, mostly Bahlsen; I'm sure that Karl's in Saugus does as well.

Several years ago I was able to find the wafers that go on the bottoms of the Elisen Lebkuchen (also at Cardullo's) and a great recipe, and made my own. Will be happy to share the recipe if you're interested.
