Looking for the best lobster bisque in Charleston SC

Hi all, My daughter is flying in from LA & I'm meeting her in Charleston. Her one food request is lobster bisque. Any opinions on whose got the best? Thanks!

  1. Its probably going to be hard to find lobster bisque in Charleston. Charleston has a very strong regional food culture, and lobster bisque isn't part of it. A much better bet would be to go with the dishes that are part of the local food culture, for example, why not try she crab soup as a substitute for the bisque? Hominy Grill does a nice version. Magnolias has a blue crab bisque that might be a good substitute, and if you really want to shoot the moon price-wise, Pennisula Grill has a lobster and corn chowder that I'm sure is wonderful.

Thanks! I guess that explains why the best lobster bisque I've had was in Maine. I love she crab soup and will explain the reason for the substitute. Local food culture sounds good to me & I was hoping to try Hominy Grill.

    2. Lobster grows up north in colder water. It's not on menus here often, especially since local and fresh items are the focus of most good restaurants here now. You may want to switch to She Crab Soup, a lowcountry specialty. For that I recommend 82 Queen, Locklear's, and SNOB.

:-) "Great minds" surely applies to you, but I'm not so sure about me...
