Peanut Butter - Calgary

  • 32
  • Share

Hello,

Long time follower, first time poster. I've found the resources on this board to be quite fantastic. So I'm wondering if anyone has stumbled across Peanut Butter &Co brand peanut butter in the Calgary area? I found it in Victoria BC, and have fallen in love! The company sent me a rather non-specific list of retailers that so far hasn't been much help.

Thanks!

  1. I've seen it at Community Natural Foods (10th Ave location). I'm not sure about the south location.

Thank you! That's easy to stop at after work, so I will be checking it out soon.

      1. re: miss.foodie

I was at Community Natural Foods on 10th Ave tonight and found out they don't carry this peanut butter any more! Guess I will have to check Planet Organic south location.

      2. Thank you CoffeeGal43! I'm heading stateside for the holidays and will search out this brand. Is there a particular flavour that you've fallen for?

There is a Chocolate flavour that's awesome. Similar flavour profile to Nutella, but without all the sugar and hydrogenated oils. Tastes like a good mix of peanuts and dark chocolate. Maple is also yummy!

          1. re: nutellaluvr

Might Maple and the Chocolate Dreams ones are awesome.

          2. Almost every flavour is sold at Planet Organic (the south location, for sure). The only one i've seen in the States that I haven't seen here is Mighty Maple, oddly enough.

I don't remember seeing PB & Co at Comm Nat South.

Oh great, thanks! We checked out the other Planet Organic location, and didn't find any. I'll head down to the South location!

              1. re: CoffeeGal43

Better hurry. I was there today and they only have about half dozen jars of Crunch Time on the shelf. No other flavours.

I picked up a couple jars for myself.

                :o)

                1. re: Sneaky

For everyone's information - the Planet Organic south location does sell a few of the flavours! They were running a bit low when I stopped by, but said that they do an order every week (it was just backlogged due to the holidays)

                  Enjoy!

                  1. re: CoffeeGal43

After finding PB&Co. peanut butter stateside, I can't get enough of it! Dark Chocolate Dreams and Crunch Time are fantastic. I called Planet Organic South today and they are out of stock (North location doesn't stock the brand nor does Community by Chinook), so I will keep up on it and buy ANY flavour I can get. Thank you for the lead CoffeeGal43, terrific find!

                    1. re: nutellaluvr

Glad you liked it! I was actually down in the US last week, and stocked up! Planet Organic South is still the only place I've found it in Calgary, but it can be tricky to find it in stock.

                      1. re: CoffeeGal43

Sad news ... I spoke to Planet Organic (South Calgary) today enquiring about their PB&Co supply. Their supplier/distributor has stopped carrying the brand so it will no longer be available through PO. PB&Co says Calgary Co-op carries their label, so I will try a few locations!

            2. Hi!
I realize this is rather late for a question posed in December, however I wanted you to know that you can get PB&Co at SOBEYS! I've gotten it at a few locations (it's in the specialty/IMPORT, ethnic isles). I know i have seen it at a few other stores, but can't think of which ones right now! As for the Sobey's, I have bought it at the Millrise store, and the Sunridge store (the one beside the London Drugs and Peter Lougheed Hospital). I recommend going to some smaller food stores (Island food market in Eauclaire). If they don't have it, they can order it! Of course you can always order it online as well!
              Hope you found it!

Thanks for the tip Barbarams! I called PB&Co and they suggested Calgary Co-op as a source but I've had no luck thus far. I will get over to Sobeys in the NE quickly. I would have never thought to look in the Ethnic aisle (good spotting)! BTW, PB&Co on their web-site says they ship within the US only (so sad).

                1. re: Barbarams

Hmmm. None at Sobey's in Millrise, which btw doesn't really have an import/ethnic aisle. Also looked for it at Co-op Midtown on the weekend. Nada.

                  1. re: Sneaky

                    Hi!
They do have it! It is in the isle with the crazy hot sauces. i can't remember which exact isle it was, but i remember when I first saw it- I was so happy! Imported foods or something like that. I will try to go check this weekend, but I can guarantee that I buy it there and have seen it at more than one sobeys location. IT IS NOT WITH THE normal PEANUT BUTTERS ETC.
As for coop, they are redoing their isles, but check for the international foods/imports etc. it won't usually be with the normal spreads! good luck

                    1. re: Barbarams

I was there at lunch today, even stopped and looked at some of those crazy hot sauces (and bought some La Victoria Enchilada sauce from the Mexican food section while I was there, another seemingly hard to find item in YYC). Did not see any PB&Co though. I asked a girl working there who just pointed me to the peanut butter section.

I'll keep looking. I love this stuff. Now that I have tried it Kraft and Skippy just don't cut it anymore.

                      1. re: Sneaky

I remember they didn't have a lot and it was kind of thrown haphhazardly on the shelf. I can't remember WHICH location: millrise, sunridge, or the one near heritage/southland...... I will figure this out and let you guys know. It's going to drive me insane now!!! lol

                2. They have a Facebook group so I posed the question about where to buy in Calgary. I mentioned that I scoured the Co Op on Richmond Road and could not find it. Hopefully I can pass on some good news when the get back to me.

I've tried the Hamptons Co-Op and Coventry Sobeys (the PB and import/ethnic and snack aisles). Nada.

I called PB & Co. and they were particularly kind providing a list which included Planet Organic (who confirms the no longer carry it), as well as Calgary Co-Op and Sobeys. They asked me to call back if I couldn't locate any. I thought I would continue my search before doing so.

                    1. re: nutellaluvr

I am going to check more locations in NW and post here. Maybe we can cover the city together :-)

                      1. re: josey124

I tried Dalhousie Co-Op today (PB and snacks/nuts and import/ethnic aisles). Nada.

Also spoke to the buyer at Sunterra (17th Ave) about PB&Co and she said she would look into it. Seemed interested. Fingers crossed!

                        1. re: nutellaluvr

GOOD NEWS!!! I am so excited to have returned this evening (May 31) from Sunterra in Westhills and can happily report that they have four (4) varieties of Peanut Butter & Co. Yes, four! Amazingly, you can find the goods along with all the other peanut butters (second shelf from the bottom), and they are carrying White Chocolate Wonderful, The Heat is On, The Bee's Knees, and Dark Chocolate Dreams.

I opened my jar of The Bee's Knees on the way home ... is that wrong?

                  2. I tried Sobeys in Royal Oak. Nothing...

                    1. Yeah they said Sobeys and Co-Op but I had no luck at the Strathcona Sobeys either. The search continues!

I just went for a walk during lunchbreak. Coop Midtown (downtown) has none. For good measure I also checked Safeway (8th Ave & 11th St) but nothing...
(Never mind I just read above that Midtown was already mentioned.)

                        1. re: josey124

I checked Coop Crowfoot, Coop Airdrie and Sobeys Airdrie. No luck

                          1. re: josey124

No luck at Dalhousie Co-Op either (PB and import/ethnic and snack/nut aisles). I'm thinking I'll have to head to LA for a re-supply mission.

                      2. Although this post is primarily looking for the elusive Peanut Butter & Co. product, I thought I would weigh in on a peanut butter find I came across. I work close to Last Chance a Liquidation World-type store that is on Barlow. Anyways, they always seem to bring in some products that are not carried in Canadian stores. In their grocery section and last week I stumbled across Peter Pan "crunchy" peanut butter. I have only seen this brand in the States so I was happy to come across it. Wow... it is a good peanut butter! At $2.99 a jar, I stocked up. It is loaded with roasted peanuts. According to the latest Cook's Illustrated, they gave Peter Pan a "recommended" in their review of peanut butters on the market.

On a side note... I also came across two Duncan Hines boxed cake mixes that I have never seen on the local grocery shelves... Red Velet and Pinapple Supreme.

                        1. All the Walmart Supercenters carry them now. It's in the health isle, not with the other peanut butters. It's awesome but there's only three flavours right now.

I actually found it there not too long ago as well! I think I actually screamed with excitement. I still haven't found the Chunky (which is my fav), but they do have the white chocolate, which is a close second.
