Where to lay our heads after dining at Inn at Little Washington

  • 7

Looking for a moderately priced Bed and Breakfast near the Inn for a saturday in March. Our tentative itinerary would be to casually make our way from the virginia suburbs with a stops at a couple wineries along the way. On the return trip maybe hit up a few of the charlotesville wineries, stroll around town, tour monticello, dinner in Charlotesville before heading back. Does this sound too rushed? Any B&B recommendations? Charlotesville recommendations? Wineries?

    1. We dined last year at the Inn and opted to stay nearby instead of at the Inn to save some money. On a friend's recommendation we stayed at the Gay Street Inn - which is 3 blocks away. Very charming and well run Inn with the most delicious breakfast served the next day. It was nice to have a place to stay nearby after such a feasting experience, but it also felt good to save some money and have a nice place to stay too. We'll do the same the next time we go out there from D.C. to dine.

      1. The Foster Harris House is just down the street. It's lovely and has an incredible breakfast -- one of the best breakfasts I've ever had. http://www.fosterharris.com/

Third the recommendation. Beautiful, friendly, great breakfast. Great food and wine recs from the owners.

We stayed one night at the Inn and one night at Foster Harris House. We enjoyed Foster Harris House and the breakfast there was much better than the breakfast we had at the Inn the day before. We went in August and breakfast was served on an outside patio -- nice.

          2. It's been a few years since we stayed there, but http://www.fairleafarm.com/ was very nice. Wonderful breakfast, 10-min walk to the Inn. They even provided a flashlight so we could walk home in the dark safely.

            1. Heritage House is a block away and is very charming & reasonable. Great breakfast if you can eat after diiner at IALW!
As far as going to c'ville after, it's a ways away, probably at least an hour or so. it's a great town though. Best wineries are Barboursville, about 20 min N of C'ville, Kluge and Jefferson. There are other good ones in the area too; in fact the best in VA are there. For dinner, on the pedestrian mall you will find Siips, which is a wine bar with really nice tapas and some decent entrees. Depending upon where you live in NOVA, it's about a 2.5 hour drive home from there. You will find some wineries on the way home too depending upon which way you drive.
You will love IALW, it's really over the top in a good way, fabulous food, surroundings, wine & service. enjoy!
