Detroit...Christmas Eve in northern suburbs?

Could anyone suggest a nice restaurant in the northern suburbs for Christmas Eve dinner? I had been planing on the Royal Park, In Rochester, but took my time in calling. When I just called I was informed they have been full for two weeks and the wait list has over 50 people on it....who knew????
We went there last year for our dinner (I don't like to cook that night) and the food and service were wonderful. Now I'm stuck trying to think of anywhere that will be as enjoyable. Oh, and please don't suggest the Townsend as they think a little to highly of themselves there. Thanks.

  1. I highly recommend the Holly Hotel (in Holly, MI of course!). We have eaten here on Christmas Eve for the past 9 years and have never been disappointed. The food is good but the atmosphere keeps us coming back year after year. It's like eating at Grandma's house...if Grandma was a rich, ecentric old Victorian lady with servants! ;-) It's both elegant and comfortable in a warm, welcoming way. Even when we lived in Royal Oak we always drove to Holly for Xmas Eve. Well worth the drive IMO.

Thanks! Used to live in Fenton and haven't thought about Holly Hotel for years. However I don't think I want to go that far north. Everyone is making a long drive to get here. Looking for something more in the Troy/Rochester area so we can get up to Rochester and see the lights after dinner.

I'm not sure that ANY of these places are even open on Christmas Eve... but I'm just throwing out some suggestions that are in the same price range as Royal Park, and would probably make a pretty nice holiday setting for your group.

            I second Kruse & Meur

Also, there is Rojo in DT Rochester now, I haven't been there, it is always packed!

            1. re: InUse

Rojo's functional. They really, *really* push the margaritas and appetizers, and it's a bit on the pricy side for what it is, but overall, I liked what I had. Understand, though, that I avoided the "pushed" dishes and drinks, and decided for myself what I wanted. Even though what I received wasn't what I was honestly expecting, I still liked it, and would get it again.

That being said, it still has a certain amount of the Andiamo "feel" to it, and that's not the best thing in the world, in my book.

Well they made enough money off those drinks to finally replace those dieing door plants with something more suitable for this haha

    1. This is our first time going out on Christmas Eve and we just made a reservation at Picano's on Rochester Road in Troy.
