Inexpensive place in way west 40's
My daughter works on W. 45 St. between 9 & 10 Ave. We plan to meet for dinner near her Friday evening. We tried Marseilles once, but I was not that impressed and it was a bit more expensive than I'm used to. I prefer a place with most entrees in $15 - $20. range. We liked Basilica, but want to eat somewhere new-- most ethnic food is fine (though I'm not wild about Japanese), but I don't like very hot (spicy) food. American is fine too. So any suggestions for an inexpensive but good place to eat in the west 40's, 8th - 10th Aves.? Thanks.

I'd also look into Hallo Berlin if you're interested in German food. And Gazala Place is fantastic and serves delicious Mediterranean food.
Enjoy.

Thanks to the three of you for your suggestions. We will be going to Dafni, but I will also keep Empanada Mama in mind for future reference-- it sounds very appealing to me. Any recommendations for what's especailly good at Dafni?
Thanks again. It's really good of people to share their knowledge.-----

re: LeahBaila
Dafni is a good place, but their portions are ridiculously big, so order accordingly. If a salad comes with a meal, consider that another meze; it is a full plate of salad. I'd recommend for you to share one meze plus the side salad, one main, and dessert (caveat: I haven't tried dessert yet - I was too full!) or the side salad plus two mezes and one main, but the mezes are also huge, so you'll probably be taking food home. We did, and still, I had eaten too much!
