Clam Chowder Bread Bowl?

  • 12

Where does one go for a Clam Chowder Bowl, y'know the kind served in a sourdough bread bowl?

I'll settle for just a good one, doesn't even have to be great.

Please, no recommendations for Gladstone ...

I think the best that I've had in Southern CA was probably at Club 33 in Disneyland, which is different from what you get at the public areas of the park.

But I digress, other than private dining rooms at the Happiest Place on Earth, where does one go for a good Clam Chowder Bowl?

Thanks.

  1. At Blue Plate Oysterette in Santa Monica they have a very good clam chowder that is not quite as thick as most. Ocean Ave. Seafood also has a very good one if you prefer the more traditional kind and you can sit at the oyster bar if you just want the chowder.

Sorry, but I should have been more clear in my OP (which has now been edited), but am looking for the ones that come in a sourdough bread bowl.

Is this what BP and/or Ocean offer?

        No it is not. Sorry.

    2. I thought Porto's clam chowder bowl was pretty damn good (Friday's only)

          1. The Boudin at/near the South Coast Plaza comes in a good sourdough bowl. I enjoy the Boudins in San Francisco whenever I visit. I hope that's good enough for you.

I used to work at this boudin. Getting the soup in a cup and the bread bowl on the side is the way to go.
