Hi all

We are heading to Santa Cruz on a road trip next week and was interested to know if the were any good recommended Seafood restaurants to try. We love fresh seafood and also like casual dining.

Any other recommendations for good restaurants/institutions or must while we are there would be greatly recommended.

Cheers

Gavin

We like Riva's Fish House. Yes, it's on the wharf, but it is a "locals" place. The food was great. Not many places have char grilled fish. I can vouch for that, the calamari, chowder and oysters on the half shell. Prices are good for the quality. It is very casual with a full bar and good drinks. What more could you ask for...all that and a great view too. Get a window table even if you have to wait for it.

One thing to remember is that Riva's is cash only!

Thanks Stacie. I did forget to mention that to the OP.

I recommend Hawg's Seafood Bar on Mission St. We've had two excellent meals there.

Rivas is the place to go.
I also recommend several casual bakery/eateries; Gayles, Kelly's and the Buttery. All started out as bakeries but now serve gourmet breakfasts, lunches and dinners (but don't stay open real late). They are great for visitors, but are all "local" hangouts as well.
Palomar Taco Bar has wonderfully fresh and inexpensive food too.
        Enjoy Santa Cruz!
