  • 9

Hey Everyone,

I'm looking for a great italian or French restaurant close to the CN Tower / the Fairmont Royal York Hotel.

Can someone recommend something?

Thanks in advance,
Stacey

  1. French - Biff's or possibly Le Select (which is not too far from the tower).

Italian - Tutti Matti or Mercatto on Bay.

Agreed with Biff's (really close) and Le Select (reasonably close).

Rabbit, what do you think of Romagna Mia? I've never been, but have heard good things. It would fall into the reasonably close category.

I second all of Rabbit's suggestion and would add Buca.

Thank you so much. I'll check those out! :)

      2. If you enjoy Tuscan food, it doesn't get more authentic than Tutti Matti. Fabulous and I'd highly recommend. You should check out their website to get a sense of pricing and menu.

If you're looking for something more casual, Terroni on Adelaide @ Victoria is within walking distance and, excellent. Very busy and noisy though if you're going during prime dining hours.

For French, Biffs is a 2 minute walk. La Papillon is a bit further along Front but also good.

Which dishes do you recommend the most at Tutti Matti, Breadcrumbs? http://www.tuttimatti.com/images/tutt...

If I was to dine at Tutti Matti again, I'd skip the fish. The last time I ordered the daily fish (the Pesce del Giorno), it was over-cooked and dried out. That being said, I have enjoyed the pastas I've ordered.

Tutti Matti can be quite loud, making table conversation difficult, so if noise is a concern, I'd suggest Biff's (they have tables along the back wall that are quieter than the more central tables) or Le Select.

I was really happy with my last meal at Biff's.

I absolutely love the Pinci at Tutti Matti. So much so, I rarely stray from that dish. Give me a plate of Pinci and some Brunello and I'm in heaven!

I did have the Porchetta and really enjoyed that as well. I guess we've been really fortunate, somehow we've never noticed the noise there. That said, we love watching the action, Alida is a dynamo in the kitchen and, the consummate host(ess?)!! I have to say I am biased, this is one of my favourite restaurants in the city.

What are your favourite dishes phoenikia?

I've enjoyed the pasta with duck, and a vegetarian pasta I don't see on the current menu. Also have enjoyed their take on caprese salad (during the summer) a while back.

Thanks for the Pinci rec. Sounds like something I would like.

Time for me to revisit Tutti Matti ;-)

While I've always had ok food at Tutti Matti, I've found the service to be generally extremely slow and uninterested. But the thing that I really can't understand and what puts me off the place the most is the price for the starters. They just seem totally out of whack with reality. Pastas/Mains aren't cheap either but the starters seem crazy. Or is it just me?
