Knife sharpening near Dix Hills / Huntington (Long Island), NY?

Pia Dec 13, 2010 12:18 PM

My mom was telling me she needed new knives because hers were blunt. She has a pretty good set already, and didn't realize she could just have them sharpened! As a Christmas present, I'd ideally like to get her a gift certificate to a knife sharpening place. If that's not possible, I'd at least like to give her a recommendation of where to take her knives. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

I live in Huntington and used to take my knives to the only place I trusted which was in Farmingdale. Sadly, Morty the Knife Man retired to FL and according to Erica Marcus of Newsday, the place to go now for knife sharpening is the Viking Cooking School in Garden City:

The knife geek in my life also seconds the Viking School - the only place to go according to her.

Sur La Table in Manhasset on Northern Blvd sharpens knifes.
They run a special at least once a year and will sharpen two or three (I forget) for free.
      Their phone 516-365-3297
