ISO Smoked Whitefish

Can folks let me know about good sources in the MSP area for smoked whitefish? Not whitefish salad (that's what I'll be making), but whole smoked whitefish.

I usually get it at Morey's in Brainerd or Lou's Smokehouse in Two Harbors, and might be able to get some from Morey's, but in case that connection doesn't pan out, I'm interested in good local sources.

That said, I'm not too hip on paying Coastal Seafood prices for this, so they're out (I often am willing to pay Coastal prices for their products, but not for smoked whitefish). I've gotten smoked whitefish from Lund's, and it's good stuff, but I'm wondering what other area options are out there. Thanks.

the wedge gets some stuff from lou's smokehouse in two harbors-- i know they have some of their yummy smoked trout spread, because i just bought some. maybe they have their smoked whitefish, or could special order you some.

Morey's is the original manufacturer for smoked whitefish. Everyone is just a reseller.

Cub sells smoked whitefish from Evretts in Port Wing Wisconsin. It's surprisingly good

You might want to try the Kiev food store in Sibley Plaza. Lots of different smoked fish; I don't know if the whitefish is whole, however.

I've seen it at Byerly's, and at the Seward Co-op meat/seafood counter. The Seward Co-op fish is from Northern Waters Smokehouse in Duluth (which is of excellent quality), but it is spendy. I would suspect the Byerly's whitefish is the same stuff sold at Lunds.

If you're aiming for the smoked whitefish at the Seward Co-op, call first. They don't always have it. In fact, I rarely see it in the fish case (and always buy it when I do). It is fabulous stuff.
