Compose

Has anyone been to Compose, the new counter seating restaurant on Worth St. in Tribeca? I think it opened like a week or two ago.

  1. I really would like to go- Opentable is not accepting reservations yet. What's the story?

      They are serving. I would call the restaurant directly.

    2. I just got back, and my wallet is lighter by $170. We couldn't get the tasting menu reservations so we settled for the ala carte fare. Fried chick peas with chirizo, tiny seared scallops, a small charcuterie, and mussels in mustard, and a small fluke in butter sauce as entrees.
      From my vantage point, seated right beside some of the chosen tasting patrons, no one was savoring anything. No one gushed or gasped at how great, or other worldly their experience was. I actually felt they were trying to convince themselves this was a unique experience, even if the food was just okay. That's how I felt about my meal. Just okay. Nothing extraordinary. Anyone remember Zipangu or 5 years ago at Per Se? It's not here.
      But why just 10 elite plates? The entire restaurant can only seat 24 patrons. Would it be so difficult, or unmanagable to produce 14 more servings of the tiny plates I saw being placed in front of the people next to me? I think "precious" is the operative word for this place.

      1. Has anyone on CH tried the full on tasting menu (not the a la carte menu they serve in the bar)? Heard from a bartender that the drinks are excellent but now I'm curious about the food.

          The concept definitely interests me and the price point seems very friendly for 10 courses. I'm intrigued enough to go if I can land a spot while in town.

            Knowing that kathryn is savvy on cocktails, just thought I'd say that we had great drinks at Compose recently. Both bourbon-based, one fizzy-gingery, the other with amaro. Not cheap, $15 each plus tax. The tables for those who aren't eating at the bar are quite pleasant but with really ugly tableclothes!

          2. Heading there tonight and will let you know. - The first avail reservation for the tasting menu was for today back when I called the # on Dec. 20th. So that will give you a good idea on the wait. -- Sounds kinda like KO all over again.

                "Nick Curtin, the young chef at Compose, the tiny TriBeCa restaurant with a $120 set menu that opened in December, will leave at the end of this month to pursue another venture yet to be determined. A replacement has not been announced. "
