I think it depends not just on the food you are seeking, but also the vibe. I find the vibe at Tarry Lodge to be upscale, but casual and I think the food mirrors that feel. X20 is less casual and a more "unique" menu. X20 can be casual if you want it to be, but I never it exuded that. Tarry Lodge is warm and homey. And of course- 2 very different types of food. I think one of the only similarities is they are both owned by "celebrity chefs".

like mister bill2 said--two completely different places! if you want pizza and pasta then tarry lodge is for that--don't stray far from those menu items. For fine dining that sometimes is amazing but sometimes the service can be poor then X2O fits the bill. both are good in their own ways...

I like them both, but I feel they're really very different. I think that X2O is better if you are looking for a fine dining experience. Tarry Lodge does many things really well but the experience is nowhere near what you'll get at X2O.
