I'm in need of a place for a special occasion dinner.

Hi everyone,

My anniversary is coming up and I want to take my husband to a special place for dinner. We have been trying to think of a place to go, but we always end up with the same restaurants and want to find someplace new to try that has amazing food and a romantic atmosphere would be a plus. The places that we mostly go back to are Sage Room in Malibu or Inn of the Seventh Ray (that's where we got married). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as both of us are foodies and are always looking for new places to try.

Culina in the Four Seasons is a beautiful restaurant. Is Geoffrey's still around? I remember that being a really romantic place.

Geoffrey's is still there, but i wouldn't recommend it for the OP's request. the setting/atmosphere is wonderful, but the food doesn't come close to any of the other places mentioned.

Culina is a good call - it's still new enough that most of us don't think to suggest it immediately.

The Wilshire in Santa Monica, Catch at Casa del Mar, Whist at The Viceroy (patio) and Penthouse at the Huntley come to mind, if you're staying westside.

Totally second the Whist at the Viceroy, we just love that patio, best in town, IMHO.

Penthouse is a nice setting, but didn't think the food was all that. And it gets loud and crazy later one, especially when they have a DJ, and no dancefloor to speak of.

If not worried about traveling a bit, Ortolan has the most romantic room in town, I think. And we've never had anything but stellar food and service there. Chef Eme is amazing.

assuming you want to stay coastal Westside or close to Malibu, Saddle Peak Lodge & Melisse are both great options.

the other two that immediately come to mind are Capo and Valentino.
