Virginia Beach Dinner Recs

I will be in Virginia Beach on Thursday and Friday night, fishing for rockfish out of Rudee's Inlet on Friday. I've eaten at some of the restaurants on Atlantic Ave, and most of them were reasonably good dinners. What I would really like to try is something special, a place where the chef/staff really produce some serious flavors and dishes. Any cuisine is open for consideration. I strongly prefer a restaurant right in the area of the beach as we may be cabbing it. Can anyone assist me with this request please.

  1. Terrapin, Zoes, La Dolce Vita, Il Giardino.
Though I haven't tried them, I heard Eat Bistro and Pacifica are also good.

Thanks VBeatso, we do enjoy Il Giardino very much, just a nice old school Italian Ristorante atmosphere with good food. We'll look into other suggestions.

I'm a big advocate for La Dolce Vita on 17th. It's great New Orleans-style cuisine.

    2. Tautogs is pretty good at the beach.

Steinhilbers for a little more upscale and a longer cab ride, but still in the city of Va. Beach.

I really like the Boardwok which is off of the road to Sandbridge. It's a fusion of Chinese-Polynesian-American food. Always fresh and good. Also in the city, but a little more of a cab ride than the oceanfront area.

Thanks for recommendations, looks like some cold fishing up there!

      2. I second Eat Bistro. I've been there several times and it's always divine!

        1. Next time you are in town the best high end place to eat near the ocean front is Terrapin. Always fresh and always good but a bit pricey. Mojito Cafe is more downscale but fantastic. Just a little hole in the wall, mom and pop kind of place churning out some righteous food.

Thanks sasmatt, I'll check them out next time I'm in the neighborhood.

I know this is an old thread, but absolutely yes! for Mojitos. We went for a late lunch a few weeks ago. Even at 2pm on a Saturday, the place was packed. I had the rice and bean bowl with pork, and a side of tostones. It was amazing.

            2. if you don't mind a "divey" atmosphere, Baja Cantina on 23rd and Pacific has the BEST fish tacos in town! The Costa Azul are prawns wrapped in wahoo wrapped in bacon and deep fried. They are amazing!!
