Must-Try Mississauga restaurants
Are there any restaurants in Mississauga that fit this designation? I'm sure there are, but I don't think I've found any yet...
Type of food doesn't matter, as long as they do it good and consistently good. Also, preferably a place that is affordable as a repeat and not a "occasion" restaurant. Hopefully service is good too, but sometimes that can be sacrificed if the food is good enough (a la Federicks in Scarborough).
When I want a decent burger I go to Fire Pit (Hurontario/Eglinton), or for Hakka I go to Eddie's Wok N Roll (Erin Mills/Millcreek), Asian would be Axia (Erin Mills/Eglinton), Italian would be Il Tartufo (Telford Way /Derry) but I wouldn't really classify them as "must-try's".
I'm looking for some true gems for when my wife & me are indecisive about where to go, we'd like some new, recommended options.
Thanks all

Tha, few true gem dining experiences left in Mississauga from our experience. Most operators clearly don't understand the business. Our definition of a true gem is better than home cooking, intelligently served in an environment filled with the spirit of hospitality. Too many places we try just don't care and play the, "Here's some food, give me the money and go away game."
The restaurant we've most frequently returned to in the past year is Grano on Enfield Place, a block south of Square One. An hard working husband and wife team serve competent Italian-Canadian cooking in a little trattoria. If busy, it's noisy.
Saucey in Streetsville is dependably ordinary.
Bamboo Legend is OK for Thai.
I wonder if Axia has new owners? Nice facility, but we had two very poor experiences there. It seemed like rank amateurs were running the place with unskilled servers and mediocre food, but that was quite a while ago. We'll retry them.

Foodie, thanks for the reply... we'll definitely put Grano on our list. We too appreciate hard, passionate work as it can often greatly enhance the dining experience.
Disclaimer on Axia: it still has very poor service. One of the owners/managers that we often see there seems to work a lot harder than his staff. The service is pretty lax at times, and sometime food quality (e.g., poorly cut sushi) does make an appearance at the table. We like the menu though, and the food is usually pretty good and it's convenient to where we live.

Are you open to lunch places? It's in many ways a better lunch town.

What spots do you like for lunch?

Definitely open for lunch joints, I can try with those with coworkers as we try to get out of the office once or twice per week. We would be limited to whatever is reasonably close by, but at some point i'd like to try any lunch recommendations. thanks

For Chinese, I usually enjoy going to Chi's Congee (Central Parkway, south of Burnhamthorpe) since I don't like the fusion places like Axia as much, unless I'm in the mood for it. The food is more authentic (though there are better in the east end of the GTA) though the restaurant style is nowhere near as fancy as Axia. Servers are generally friendly too.
Arirang in the same plaza as Chi's is a decent Korean place though I prefer Miga on Dundas between Erin Mills and Winston Churchhill. Lots of authentic Korean food though if you're expecting something like Korean Grill House (all you can eat KBBQ chain), then you'll be disappointed.
Apricot Tree on Dundas between Mississauga Rd and Erin Mills is great for French/Italian food. They also have entree style crepes and dessert crepes on their menu that are fabulous!
The Host (by Square One) is great for Indian food as is Avani on Matheson, west of Mavis.

I've been to Miga some time ago and did enjoy the experience. Every time I pass by that place during the evening the parking lot seems like it's packed to capacity... I will try it again though as there have been several members on the board including yourself that back it up.
I've always been curious about Avani, i'll definitely give it a try sometime now. Thanks!
